GROUNDS

Location

The Lakes is located on the First Lake Channel that connects to First Lake and Old Forge Pond and various channels that link to several lakes on the Fulton Chain of Lakes. Indulge in boating, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, shopping or just sit back and experience the peace and quiet that surrounds you. We have kayaks, paddleboards and canoes for our registered guests to enjoy- free of charge. Boat docking is available for an extra fee and by reservation only (limited availability).

The Lakes is just minutes to the Old Forge Public Beach, Water Safari, tennis courts, boat tours, churches, grocery stores, quaint gift shops, movie theater, arcade, miniature golf, and the community art center. Not to mention the excellent restaurants, hiking trails, lakes and ponds for fishing, that are also nearby.

Also close by are two championship 18-hole golf courses: Thendara and Inlet.  The  McCauley Mountain chairlift and picnic area has a spectacular view of the village of Old Forge and the Fulton Chain of Lakes.

Directions From The NYS Thruway

The Lakes is easy to find... Take the New York State Thruway to Exit 31 at Utica, follow Route 12 north to Alder Creek (approximately 25 miles) and then north on Route 28 to Old Forge (another 25 miles).  One mile from the center of town, just past the Water Safari, take a right onto Hollywood Road. We are located 500 feet on the right-hand side (146 Hollywood Road).

Less than a mile from the center of Old Forge, nestled among the trees, and overlooking First Lake Channel is The Lakes  (formerly known as The Narrows Cottages of Old Forge) - a luxury cottage colony that will take your breath away all year round!

There are eight cottages and a three-bedroom main house. Each comes with its own  fire pit surrounded by Adirondack-style chairs, a picnic table and a charcoal grill. Two large decks; a sunbathing/star gazing deck and a dining deck, both overlooking the channel, provide an added outdoor space for our guests to share. The waterfront sitting area is a favorite to enjoy a morning coffee or an afternoon beverage. Fishing is possible right off the dock and never gets old!

Our cottages boast impressive open floor plans with cathedral ceilings and modern kitchens. Beautifully stoned fireplaces, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, elegant pine throughout, tiled and spacious bathrooms provide a modern feel and a charming Adirondack décor completes the look. Our cottages sleep anywhere from 1-5 and come with Wi-Fi, basic cable, flat screen TVs and fully equipped kitchens.

One-bedrooms or two-bedrooms available.

Our main house features three bedrooms with a queen bed, full bed and a day bed with a trundle. Nice size eat-in kitchen and a spacious living room provide plenty of space to comfortably accommodate a party of 6. There are kayaks, paddleboards and canoes for our registered guests to enjoy. First come first serve basis.

  • Due to the coronavirus, we’re taking extra steps to clean and sanitize properly between reservations.
